Linden Labs Releases Sansar’s New Trailer: Showcases Creation of New Worlds

Mar 8, 2017 By

Virtual Reality has been taking over the way we know the markets of technology to be. There has been a paradigm shift in the way tech firms deliver experiences to the users, and VR has been a major catalyst of this change. Linden Labs’ Sansar is a new VR app from them which will launch in the Spring of this year. It has been awaited for quite a while, and Linden Labs have now released a new trailer depicting the creation of new worlds on it.

Sansar

For those who might not remember, Linden Labs is the company behind second life, which has been played by up to 1.1 million users at a time in its peak. The company is taking their world building expertise and putting it in a virtual reality setup. This is indeed a major jump for the VR technology as well as for the world of experiential gaming.

Sansar will be different from Second Life because while second life featured one massive endless world, this new-age VR experience will duplicate the worlds endlessly, which will allow the accomodation of more people. The new trailer to Sansar is darker, grittier, and even dystopian to an extent. Things happening in the trailer are looking rather chaotic, and show a great example of what it will hold once it comes out for the users in the Spring of this year.

Virtual Reality is stepping up, along with Augmented Reality. Both these markets have been booming with every passing day. The technologies have found use across multiple sectors over the years. With Apple too focusing more on AR in the next few years, and with Google working heavily on Virtual Reality, it looks like Lineden Labs is releasing Sansar at the right time where people are all set to accept VR as a regular phenomenon, and not something special.

Microsoft Hololens Successor To Release in 2019

Feb 21, 2017 By

Over the past sevearl years, a large number of brands have realized the power of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality and have quickly been making the leap to this gen-next technology. One of the biggest names to have embraced this technology with open arms has been that of Microsoft. For years, the company has been experimenting with the concepts of a device that connects AR and VR to the physical world that we live in. Microsoft Hoololens is that device which makes it possible. The company is now gearing up to launch a successor to the Hololens, but it is not likely to release till 2019!

Microsoft HoloLens

Ideally, by 2019 Microsoft had planned to release a third-generation Hololens. However, there are a large number of complexities that surround the Microsoft Hololens. The company has actually decided to skip one version from their ideal roadmap, and release the second version when they planned to release a third one. The idea behind this leap is that Microsoft now plans to introduce many gen-next features on to the Hololens, which will immediately give them an edge over their compeittion.

Microsoft is looking at the long run here, and the company does believe that the Microsoft Hololens does have the power to change the way the consumers perciee the brand to be. With the first Hololens having released over two years ago, this is quite a long wait. However, the Microsoft Hololens is still a product that needs numerous improvements, beginning from their field of view to the battery life, to the size of the device itself!

While we are unlikely to see a new Microsoft Hololens till 2019, there’s a good chance that the device becomes more of a household name by then than it now is. At the moment the Hololens is largely limited to testers, developers, and techies. Howeer, a wider application will make it more interesting.

Build AR and VR Apps by Simple Drag-and-Drop Actions with Appy Pie

Feb 15, 2017 By

Appy Pie is a popular name for those who like to build simple and easy apps. The platform allows the users to build apps by simply dragging and dropping elements, which makes the otherwise complicated process very, very easy. In their latest update today they have announced that they are now bringing forward the ability to build AR and VR apps using the same drag and drop technique!

Appy Pie

Platforms like Appy Pie allow businesses with limited budgets to easily build apps that are fun to interact with, as well as can be built without much of a technical knowledge. While the experience might not be as amazing as an app that has been fully coded by a team of developers, this is a great tool for anyone looking forward to build an app to increase their presence. Appy Pie offers the users the basic AR and VR features –

  • Image Recognition and Tracking: Image recognition allows the users to recognize the real-world objects, as well as track their movement in real-time. This almost gives the phones ‘eyes’ and a sense of visual recognition.
  • A panoramic and 360 video viewer: This allows the users to get a feel of the location that is being shown in the panorama without actually visiting that place! Imagine sitting in your room and getting the feeling of being at the Grand Canyon or at the Statue of Liberty! It is all possible with this feature.

With Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality now becoming almost a mainstream technology, more and more companies are quickly jumping in and adding some features into their apps. Apple too, is all set to double down their efforts in the world of AR this year. The company is expected to release an AR headset sometime later this year. Thanks to DIY app making platforms such as App Pie, everyone has an access to this gen-next technology!

HTC To Launch A U Ultra Smartphone Compatible VR Headset Later This Year:

Feb 15, 2017 By

After having considerable success in the VR industry, HTC is now getting involved in launching headsets that will be able to bring virtual reality to the smartphone.

By virtual reality on smartphones we do not mean the Google cardboard; it means that the concept will have a prototype of the HTC Vive that will be dedicated to the mobile platform only. Needless to say, a tight budget is out of the question and prices are sure going to be quite challenging.

HTC had laid its base for the mobile VR environment almost a year back. Developments started alongside the HTC Vive. A special app store, dedicated to mobile VR, called Viveport M was launched in China. Apart from this, the company has tried coming up with the concept of the Vive M phone, but so far no positive movement.

The headsets like Google Cardbhoard that provide a budget option to experience VR, which the mid range ones can resort to using the phone by shoving them in the VR headset. This time however, we might need to understand that HTC will be coming up with a different concept. This concept states the company might follow another concept where the mobile does not have  to be plugged into the headset. Instead, the phone can stay disconnected, just like LG 360 VR or like magic leap, where you are actually carrying the receptive unit around in a backpack or in the case of the former, where the phone and the headset are connected using a USB cable.

The wireless connectivity concepts are quite lucrative, but things can take a set back in this regards particularly because of the phones . Not everyone has a highly improved smartphone and such people might have to resort to Google Cardboard  for the same. As of now, you can enjoy the HTC Vive as it is until something better comes into play.

Google Opens Daydream VR For Developers

Sep 23, 2016 By

It is safe to say that devices like consoles, computers, smartphones, and tablets would not be as popular as they are today if not for its available software. While companies could develop their own first-party software, it simply isn’t as efficient as opening it up to third-party developers, and this is also pretty much key if new technology such as virtual reality were to thrive. The good news is that if you’re looking forward to seeing more apps for VR in the future, Google has announced that its Daydream SDK is now out of beta. In case you did not know, Daydream is Google’s VR platform for smartphones and by launching the SDK and opening it up to third-party developers, hopefully we will be able to look forward to a ton of VR content when Daydream phones start to populate the market.

screen-shot-2016-09-22-at-2-28-30-pm

According to Google, “Today, we are proud to announce that the Google VR SDK 1.0 with support for Daydream has graduated out of beta, and is now available on the Daydream developer site. Our updated SDK simplifies common VR development tasks so you can focus on building immersive, interactive mobile VR applications for Daydream-ready phones and headsets, and supports integrated asynchronous re-projection, high fidelity spatial audio, and interactions using the Daydream controller.”

At the moment there are no Daydream-ready phones in the market. However the Nexus 6P is the only phone that is approved to handle the SDK, but even then it isn’t ideal, but it is still a good start and hopefully we can expect some interesting apps to come out of this. Are you looking forward to the new technology of Virtual Reality? What do you think of Google’s project of Daydream in the Virtual Reality market? Comment below and do let us know if you are waiting for the new technology to come out and experience the world like never before.

Virtual Reality’s Real Capacity Proved At Computex 2016:

Jun 4, 2016 By

Virtual reality has dominated Computex2016. This event was held in Taipei this here. Everywhere it is held at Taiwan itself and different text Giants from across the world come up with different innovations for that year.  in short you can say that this is like the wwdc of the East.

As much as we have heard from different sources about the various type of tech concepts introduced in this function this year the most important aspect of this event has been virtual reality. Apart from the normal Expectations of people from the bigger brands like oculus rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, the show was able to provide as an insight into many other smaller brands who have been working equally hard at popularising different concepts of virtual reality. It is true that the smaller brands have got overshadowed with the launch of devices from the three major companies launch before hand but China and its surrounding places in the Far East are always supportive of new brands that come into existence. Let us not forget that it is from here that a very unknown brand called xiaomi came and managed to reduce some of the greatest phone in 2014.

Virtual reality atComputex 2016 was indeed rather interesting. Many new concept scene popularizing the use of virtual reality in different sectors across our lives including places of physical exercise. There was a device which was actually a rolling machine taken from a gym which was connected to a headset and computer that supported virtual reality. On trying it was noted that whenever the person using the device would sit and row at the machine with the headset on she would be able to see that he was rowing a Kayak. This device has been designed extremely well and should be adopted by various gyms across the world. The major drawbacks here are that if the gym is large day would need a lot of these devices to keep the gym moving. Moreover this would be an extremely costly affair and would not be affordable by many of  the people.

A second device that was noted was a kind of a bird flight simulator. Users would simply have to flap her hands like birds do and they would be able to feel as if they are flying in. Then again this device has its own share of shortcomings and may not be ready for spending so much on this device.

Other companies have decided to put their VR  computers in a backpack and have the user lug them around whenever they are using the apparatus. Among these brands are HP, MSI and Zotac.
