The world of technology has been progressing faster than ever before, and more and more innovations are happening with every passing day. However, not all these innovations are company driven, as users, too have an important role to play in this, and many users have been coming out with innovations on company’s technology, or as we call it, hacking. Hackers are basically innovators who make the products bend to their comfort. In latest news, hackers have managed to run Pokemon and Linux on PlayStation 4 console.
This has been achieved by the hackers of the group fail0verflow, who recently showed off Linux and a custom Pokemon version, called ‘PlayStation Edition’ running on the PS4 console. This demo was displayed at the 32nd Chaos Communication Congress.
The group showed off their achievement at the CCC, using the PS4’s browser which uses WebKit, which is an open-source platform. They used the browser to launch into Linux, from where they showed us a custom edition of the Pokemon game, dubbed the PlayStation Edition with the help of a Gameboy Advance emulator. Linux on PlayStation 4 is quite a big thing as sometime after the release of the PS3, Sony had decided to remove Linux support for their console completely.
Fail0verflow talked about this in their blog as well, calling the achievement ‘batshit crazy’. Here’s a video explaining the users about Linux on PlayStation 4 and more that they have done –
The group has summarized their lengthy blog post in simpler words as – “We’re working on Linux kernel patches, and are looking to get them upstreamed. We’re not releasing exploits – we’re certain other people will. Don’t ask us. And if you want free games, go away.”
This is indeed quite a headstrong way into the world of technology, showing the power of talent that exists beyond the boundaries of the international bigwigs.
