Ever since the month of October, it was being heavily anticipated that Google will ‘soon’ announce their Google Play Music Podcast feature. However till recent times there was no sign of the same. Until recently. Yesterday, Bill Simmons, the popular sportcaster leaked the news about the fact that the Google Play Music Podcast feature is coming to the users in February! However, just a day after the news broke out, the feature went live for some users.
The Google Play Music Podcast section is quite similar to the rest of the app and there are no drastic change as such. It still features the same orange colour theme, and the same carded layout. The new section in the app will now feature two distinct sections, “featured” and “Your Podcasts”. It also comes with a search bar at the top.
However as of now what it seems to be is a universal search bar and not a dedicated podcast search bar as the users would be allowed to search music, artists and albums from their own storage. The feature will come to ‘just podcasts’ when the service is actually launched for the public at large.
Subscribing to a podcast will prompt a box which will ask the users if they want to automatically download the past 5 episodes and want to be notified every time a new episode comes out.
Even the ‘Now Playing’ Screen for the Google Play Music Podcast feature is quite the same as the rest of the app when it normally plays the music. The one change that can be easily noticed is the fact that the thumbs up and the thumbs down buttons have been removed from the layout and two new buttons which move the podcasts forward or backward by 30 seconds have been added.
The update is expected to reach all users by the end of February.
