The Android OS, particularly the Nexus phones are going to receive an update in the following week, that will introduce many new emojis.
The generation of today likes spending most of its time on the smartphones. This trend has evicted verbal conversations to a certain extent and has converted itself into text. But with growing conversational needs, most of our emotions would have gone unexpressed had emoticons, also known as emojis, not been in existence.
Emojis help us express feelings when words are not enough to express them. Or perhaps, they help us complete conversations when we are just too lazy to type! Luckily, the Android team at Google realizes this. As declared by Senior Vice President of Android, Chromecast and Chrome OS, Hiroshi Lockheimer, Android users on Nexus phones are going to get a bunch of new, interesting Emojis very soon.
Follow Hiroshi’s tweet here.
It is also unclear if this feature would be a part of the Android Marshmallow future upgrades. Not much was clear by Hiroshi’s tweets as he wanted to surprise users later. But he did let us in on a sneak peek. The image on his tweet showed a lion, a crab, a unicorn and some round faced emoticons as well. The taco emoji is also going to be a part of this Unicode 8 update. Tacos were introduced to iOS much earlier, around October, when the iOS 9.1 was rolled out. We also expect that the varying skin tones on emoticons will be added.
Undoubtedly, the introduction of the new emojis would be reflected on Google applications like Hangouts as well.
As of now, Hiroshi Lockheimer has stated that information has been cascaded to the OEMs so that they can make changes on the emoticons as per the phones they are working on. As a result, the emoticons you see on a Samsung device may be slightly different that what you see in a Motorola phone.
